Windows Live, the brand, the services and now the platform

Windows Live is evolving into a platform for third-parties application. The idea, reports by LiveSide, a Microsoft fan blog, is to get “developers to create their own applications on top of Windows Live web services” and thus will help “push the Windows Live initiative ‘over the top’”.
For an e-business company, building an application with the Windows Live toolbox would for example extend their way to reach IM users. Imagine Amazon launching Amazon Spaces for tech enthusiasts, and that you could talk to them on Windows Live messengers.
More details would be disclosed at the MIX07. By now, all we know is that the Live services and APIs are distributed into two groups. Identity that includes relationships, advertising, domains and storage. And applications that provides instant messaging, search, Spaces, mail/calendar, expo (classifieds) and mapping.
