Major Brad Van Poppel says he’s fulfilling his mission: “When 85% of teenagers are online every day, the Army wants to be there.” But where do teens hang out every day? On the Web, indeed, specifically IM chats.

So the US army developed Sergeant Major, a chat bot, which is bringing some Wow factor to the upcoming new US Army web portal. Sgt. Major is willing to answer questions of potential recruits. Since its launch in August 2, the average of time spent on site has increased to around 15 minutes.
