Skype turns bank balance into phone numbers

How intrusive could be a plugin that was develop to gain time? Quite far, said Jeremy Wagstaff. The WSJ columnist reports a blind behavior of the Skype browser extension.
So far, the addon (now a built-in option of the Skype 3.0) detects any string of numbers in a web page that might be a phone number or anything that Skype can dial and turns it into a one-click-to-call button. Pretty cool stuff, indeed, but it also converts bank balances into telephone numbers.
“This would freak out the casual user not a little, I should think. Who wants to think that a piece of code in their browser is scouring their bank account Web site and turning anything it can find into telephone numbers?”
The solution to this flaw is to deactivate the plugin each time you check your online bank account. But it would be better if Skype provides the option in its plugin that users could customize depending on their needs. Firefox anti-pop-up filter does that already. That shouldn’t be hard for Skype.
