Mobile computers aren’t that far from us

Remember those wearable calculator watch that people used to carry in the 90s? Add to it an Intel microprocessor, Bluetooth connectivity and a slightly bigger screen. It’s more fun, sure, and it looks like the Symbol WT400 series of mobile computers.

“Worn on the hip or wrist, the device brings an IP-54 sealing rating and can survive drops to concrete from as high as 4-feet (1.2-meter)”, reports Engadget. “The device itself runs WinCE 5.0 Pro on a 520MHz Intel XScale PXA270 processor and packs-in 802.11a/b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 1.2, and 2.8-inch QVGA display with backlight.”

Now, if you read 115-pages forecast September study of the Pew Internet (we haven’t finished it yet; watch out for the big PDF) and check the first of the five scenarios for the Future of the Internet in 2020, you find out this prediction:

“By 2020, worldwide network interoperability will be perfected, allowing smooth data flow, authentication and billing; mobile wireless communications will be available to anyone anywhere on the globe at an extremely low cost.”

Combine the device and the forecast, and you might get the future of the Internet. But besides commenting it, we ask your opinion on this: How do you feel about compuwearings and the always-on-the-grid way of life?
