Microsoft denies the iPod killer, still suspected to go mobile

Right after the NY Times suspected Microsoft to roll out an iPod killer by the end of this year, Microsoft denies all the details. “Speculation and rumors”, a spokesman said.
For the BBC, if the project gets real, it won’t be rolled out by Microsoft. “Earlier this year reports that Microsoft was developing a rival to iPod proved inaccurate. The firm was developing a new handheld computer platform technology which was then licensed to third-party companies to build.”
But for TG Daily, that doesn’t shrink the probability of Microsoft creating a mobile phone operator:
“With or without a Microsoft-brand device, Live Anywhere is likely to catapult Microsoft into the role of a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) ― a company that deploys network services over carriers it doesn’t own, or bandwidth it leases from others.”
We put a bet on the last scenario, which is all the most plausible. Microsoft has many time reiterated its intention to get deeper into the mobile market. And some mobile carriers will stick with it.
