YouTube videos on Verizon mobiles

Earlier this month, YouTube unveiled its intention to go mobile. But not before a while, not before the first quarter of next year… It’s done in a different manner. YouTube agreed to broadcast its videos through Verizon Wireless. The service called Vcast should start in December, and Verizon claims that about 20 million of its customers would be able to register. Its price? $15, (although YouTube videos are free on the web)
YouTube also said the deal with Verizon was exclusive for a short period, reports Reuters. It did not say when it would be free to pursue additional deals with other wireless providers. And this leaves a room for an eventual YouTube standalone video service.
And where YouTube moves in, traditional broadcast media ‘moves out’. A recent ICM survey shows this result: 43% of Britons who watch video from the internet or on a mobile device at least once a week said they watched less normal TV as a result.
