Yahoo beta starts its group text messaging service

Quietly, Yahoo begins Mixd, a new group text messaging service. Currently, only a handful of college US campuses could access it. It’s an experiment. Just for see how college students, those heavy text message users, would “use the product,” says Scott Gatz, senior director of Advanced Products Group, a team of idea developers inside Yahoo.
Users would be able to ‘text reply to all’. They could also start private conversations, upload and share photos. External members might also join a specific group. Each of them will get a dedicated blog where all the pictures, videos and messages sent through the phones will be posted for viewing later.
Of course, the first features seem very similar to existing group messaging service. But almost all of them are in beta, but the place is getting crowded with its Twittr, Google Dodgeball, Joopz, Mobabbler, Mozeo, or Swarmteams. Yahoo feels the right time to start testing its own, but with this huge advantage: Yahoo and Nokia are close partners.
