Yahoo matchup of the year: IMail

Yahoo took the matchup idea set by Google and gave it another dimension. Its gigantic dimension. Google has imported its GTalk into its GMail. This time, Y! email service, which is the biggest provider with over 250 million registered accounts, will embed the Y! instant messenger.
Users would be able to see if contacts are logged on to their web-based email account. They could initiate a chat, have the contents of the chat automatically inserted in an email, or email contents inserted a chat.
Eventually, one would object the delimitation between email and IM is obsolete already, that many emails contains just a phrase or two in the body content or only the title. But if we take this for granted, Yahoo IM user base would make a big jump, email users would get more hooked to IM if they’re not already.
For our part, we still prefer Google. As it starts earlier, it got time to pour more voice features into this idea, like dropping a voicemail into a contact’s inbox. But let see what Microsoft would do the same for its Windows Live services.

Yahoo took the matchup idea set by Google and gave it another dimension.
