Sprint Nextel early project to deploy a 4G-WiMax network over the US got a big partner, Nokia. Under the deal, the cellphone maker will provide the network infrastructures, develop and market WiMax-based mobile devices, including multimedia computers.

In August, Sprint said the new network will rely on its extensive 2.5GHz spectrum holdings, which cover 85 percent of the households, and that it planned to strike some deals with Intel, Motorola and Samsung to incorporate WiMAX technology into end-user devices. At least, with Nokia, Sprint now has solid starting base.
