Just one more step before the next generation of WiFi

That’s one small step for a draft, one giant leap for the standards. By an unanimous vote, the IEEE task group working on the next generation of WiFi called 802.11N has approved the second version of the working document. Just one more step remains until its official release as the 802.11N.

The new standard has already caught many attention, as it will boost data transfers over the airwaves by 10, or enlarge the range of availability of WiFi routers. Belkin (pictured), Netgear, and other computer device manufacturers have already lined up their series of 802.11n-compatible gears. Even surveillance cameras have jumped in the bandwagon. And on top of that, a wider faster hotspot would spark the adoption of WiFi phones and other personal communicators. (via arstechnica)
