WDeal: Low-cost communication isn’t all the charm of French VoIP

Just like their American cousins, French VoIP companies start seeking profitability in richer services than just plain voice communications. Wengo, a startup owned by major telco Neuf Telecom, debuts its self-selling service platform called WDeal.

WDeal intends to build a community of experts who sells their services over the WengoPhone VoIP client, or a sort of eBay for consultancy and e-learning. (We previously enlisted those two business models in our selection of industries that VoIP could disrupt.)

Of course, the competition is getting tough on this market segment. Ether, Guruza, or Qunu to tell a few. But none of them still lands in France, and that’s the opportunity for Wengo.

Each seller gets €1 per minute of communication. That’s not too bad, if you consider that you can teach how to speak French for €60 an hour. So far, the service reached just its alpha version and is only available in the Moliere’s mother tongue.
