Wavion is a start-up whose wireless technology might solve city councils struggling to blanket their metro area.

“Wavion’s technology doubles the range of wireless signals from 600 feet, which is typical of gear from companies such as Tropos Networks, to 1,200 to 1,500 feet,” claims Alan Menezes, vice president of marketing and business development for Wavion, to CNet.

“The increased range means that three to four times fewer access points are needed to blanket cities, which Menezes said reduces costs by at least 50 percent.”

Wavion enters the WiFi market with big ambitions. They could, in fact, as they’ve backed by Sequoia Capitals, the venture capital firm that has a flair for hi-tech successful companies, and Elron Electronics Industries, which bet over $22 million in its development.
