“Number of VoIP subscribers more than triples” said TIA

We already got an idea of the impressive growth in VoIP demand but now, we’re certain of it. According to the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), VoIP residential US customers more than tripled last year. The growth rate is exponential: 150,000 in late 2003; 1.2 million in 2004; 4.2 million in 2005. Analysts forecasts a 18 million user population within the next three years, although they didn’t add PC-to-PC phone calls.
Better broadband connection and market penetration drives this growth. In 2005, there were 41.3 million subscribers to a high-speed Internet service. By 2009, there should be 69.2 millions, that yields an annual increase higher than 130%.
If we follow the predictions, the same VoIP growth should happen to Europe. Some 20 million new broadband lines were settled within Europe in 2005, for 53 million users, according the Register relaying the European Commission last annual report. Around 11.5% of the total European population uses a high-speed or very high-speed Internet connection. They were 7.3% in 2004.
