Phone stealing is on the rise, say experts, but do we know how much do phishers steal? According an estimation from New York telecom firm Stealth Communications, they would hack about 200 million minutes a month, worth $26 million and about $35 to $40 billion a year.

Wholesale purchasers often resell access to ordinary punters via printed phone cards. The proportion of VoIP phishing is still small but growing component, says Newsweek (via the Register). But the estimation has to take with caution, as uncovering the illegal trade is “extremely difficult”.

But to us, there also is another trend, the trend of free phone calls, in which people can make unlimited calls with their WiFi phone. In this scenario, would VoIP frauding keep having sense? What do you think?
