Among wireless technologies, the WiFi and all its standards are the kings. No doubt possible. Still, some companies, like Israel-based Alvarion, are already betting on the WiMax technology. Among their first results, a technical platform, BreezeMax, that “delivers primary voice services using existing TDM infrastructure, in addition to its broadband service capabilities, means incumbent (ILECs) and competitive local exchange carriers,” as they say.

“Research shows that the current market size for fixed or portable broadband wireless access is roughly $600 million and is expected to grow by 15% to 30% annually. By 2012, the market is estimated to reach $6 billion. The mobile broadband market, which is nonexistent at this point, is estimated to reach $20 billion in a few years,” considered Alvarion CEO Tzvika Friedman in a recent interview to theStreet.com. Of course, they are just forecasts. Of course, this is quite premature to discuss this yet. But you should right now store this keyword somewhere in your mind. Talking about voice over WiMax usually implies betting on 4G.
