Vodafone lunch menu: Tiscali or Bulldog

Speculations. It’s all about that, if we listen to Vodafone no-no answer to the most recent takeover rumor.

Yesterday, the British Sunday Telegraph revealed that the mobile operator will take over whether Tiscali UK or Cable&Wireless Bulldog, both being broadband Internet service providers in the Isle.

If Vodafone goes for Tiscali, that would imply dishing out quad-play to 1 million broadband residential subscribers. Slightly less if it’s Bulldog.

This scenario is the last episode of a rumor series that Vodafone sparked since it sweeps its 100% mobile services away and decide to move towards a fixed-line and wireless offer. Remember Ono a possible virtual mobile network operator for Vodafone? Remember also Telefonica, Verizon, and Blackstone Capital chasing Vodafone? Silicon.com reports that last week, some analyst even consider a bidding for British Telecom.

Why so many rumors within several weeks? The Register may have given the answer: The Vodafone boss himself isn’t convinced the cellco needs to buy an ISP. Another U-turn strategy? Four weeks ago, the same Arun Sarin explained how a combined fixed-line offer and mobile services would be neat and helpful to Vodafone.

And you, what do you think? Will they eat or be eaten?
