Videoconferencing the dinner

Cellphones reinvented relationships and ubiquity of voice communication. Another level will certainly be reached soon, with projects like the video airhockey. There’s now the video dinning to add to the list. The concept is straight away. Two people sit in different places, in different countries for the extreme situation. When one gets ready to sit down and eat, the system detects the action and alerts the other one, who will go to his kitchen, turn on a small camera and a microphone to capture what he is doing.

It’s quite easy to replicate the system with a simple pair of webcam. But in Accenture’s lab which carries the project, it’s taken very seriously. “Projectors are mounted on the ceilings of two mock kitchens - Wan is in one and Glaser is down the hall in the other. In each, activities taking place in the other room are projected onto a large window, allowing the men to watch each other; microphones allow them to carry on a conversation,” reports the Age. Obviously, Accenture wants to develop a new medical application for the future, not for the masses.
