Calling with a USB memory stick

Remember those days when people had to camp in front of the phone booth before getting a chance to grab the public phone handset. This is no longer true, every one has a mobile nowadays, except people who still used to make international calls.

But now, even that belongs to the past. At least, for subscribers to VoIP service provider GoTalk Broadband. The Australian telco dishes out a USB memory stick with its softphone buried inside.

GoTalk subscribers now just have to get a PC connected to the high-speed Internet, grab their headset and wait for the voice client to set ready. To assure them the best security level, GoTalk CEO, Steve Picton, told PCWorld that the device comes even loaded with the user’s fingerprints to access customer information and launch the softphone.

The device, called “VoIP to Go“, is available at $50 ― and it doesn’t look like this picture. GoTalk plans start at $10 per month, and a flat rate of $0.1 a minute.
