Prepare to Linux mobile “Greenphone”

LinuxWorld yields for the Linux industry event that opened its doors in San Fransisco until the end of the week. And Trolltech chose this occasion to showcase its “Greenphone”, its first Linux mobile phone featuring a user-modifiable Linux OS, WiFi connectivity, and comes with SIP middleware supporting VoIP calls.
The phone design looks good. But nicer than the iPod Nano-style shape is the software development kit (SDK) that includes Qtopia Phone, a comprehensive application platform and user interface for Linux-based mobile phone. For the record, Qtopia is used in 11 mobile phones models (Motorola, ZTE or Cellon).
For any non-tech savvy users, Greenphone promises to be a tough competitor for Sony Mylo. Google and Skype are both regulars clients of Trolltech. Which means there’s slightly a chance to see GTalk or Skype landing onto the Linux phone quite soon. Jabber and SIP-compatible clients (aka Gizmo Project) will of course fit the device, without naming all the great streaming and multimedia applications that runs on Trolltech’s Qtopia.

Is that the operating system (in that case, Motorola is already doing it) or is it the whole handset like the Trolltech GreenPhone? […]
