Tiscali just launched its voice client
Let’s make a wish: NetPhone, the Tiscali newly launched VoIP service, will share, disrupt, torpedo the softphone market that’s getting very crowded. Especially in the UK, where Tiscali decided to launch.
But our wish might be like a pure dream as Tiscali seems to miss the VoIP bandwagon, and trail behind it without any will to catch up on competitors.
Its NetPhone is another clone softphone. Without any innovative functionalities: free PC-to-PC calls, charged landline and mobile phone calls and SMS. Price rates are lower than Skype’s ones, but could its 0.14 euro per minute flat rate rival with the Skype’s 0.17 euros?
Tiscali might have some serious timing problem to launch its voice client. Winds are turning. IT observers are cooling down their enthusiasm; Preston Gralla, from Network Pipeline, wrote: “Can you hear the VoIP bubble bursting?”
This isn’t the best situation, and this is why we twice wish Tiscali NetPhone a good luck.
