The Apple iPhone, a cellphone and now a TV remote

In June, the Apple iPhone will be out. And sure, it will do a lot of things, from free VoIP phone calls to watching TV. By talking about TV, we recently covered the fact that the upcoming cellphone would be able to receive streaming TV broadcasts via the Slingbox. But that’s not all, the iPhone would in fact be able to control the TV itself. Apple has filed for a patent titled “Techniques for pairing remote controllers with host devices” that mentions using a “mobile phone” to serve as a remote controller for a Mac computer.
“Once the software is installed, the mobile phone can be used to control popular programs such as iTunes media management program from Apple Computer, Inc. For example, in controlling iTunes media management program using this solution, the user can use the directional controls on the mobile phone to change listing volume, skip forward and backward, play/pause, etc.”
While the TV control feature could take away one e-candybar in your living room, it’s not certain that postponing a phone call to switch channels will be very user-friendly… (via MacNN)
