Talkative billboards coming in September

If you still expect people to cool down their cellphones, you should give up this idea. The first models of talkative billboards or LBS (localization based services) are announced for next September in Argentina, said Clarin, the innovative local NY Times.
Whenever those devices detect cellphones surrounding them, they immediately text them with vouchers and commercial messages that concern nearby stores. Although business models are obvious, technologies supplying such modern billboards aren’t yet chosen.
“There are five groups of technologies, all closed to each other and with distinct ranges of features. From the cellular triangulation (currently used to spot a cellphone whenever judges ordered it) to the most sophisticated GPS,” affirmed Ignacio Nores, VP of Business development for Personal.
But the real problem isn’t GPS, Bluetooth or WiFi localization. It’s more the consumer feedback. And a bunch of them are afraid of spammers, phishers, vishers. So it would be interesting to know how persuasive this new marketing media would be.
