A Swiss telcos patents the ads spray vehicle

For those who argue that ads are invading their mobile devices, Swisscom has an answer. The Swiss telecoms company has patented a method and a vehicle sending remote-controlled adverts on mobile devices.

It’s real destruction creation. A century ago, kids were paid a dime to hang out in the streets and shout “Eat at Joe’s” during a whole day. That was annoying, and yes, the technique has been perfected.

The Swisscom’s patent makes possible such this scenario: A mobile ice-cream vending vehicle passes past a group of people with a cellphone. Cellphones are turned on, as usual, to never miss a call. But this time, they all ring. They just receive a SMS from the moving vehicle. If showed, the SMS gives them a free ice cream.

Another scenario to give the picture. Via textually, New Scientist has the airplane flying over a concert. “The plane would draw attention to itself by beeping and flashing its lights. This should encourage anyone nearby to check their phones and PDAs for new messages.”

Anyway, the technique is even better than JC Decaux’ talking billboard or the Pespi tune billboard. And to sweet a bit more our future, Swisscom’s patent applies to all GSM, UMTS, Bluetooth, and WiFi enabled devices.
