Sun Java, now free, aims to boost mobile applications

Everyone has been expecting that one day Sun would open source Java technology… Sun did it, by going over expectation, releasing the whole Java source code under GPL, the high-standard open source license.
Sun Java, now free as in beer and in speech would say open source advocates, could count on a vast community of developers to enhance compatibility in Linux platforms, and aim to closer integration in open source projects like Mozilla Firefox.
There’s a point usually understressed. Open Sun Java aim to boost application development on mobile phones. To this purpose, Sun has renamed its Java Micro Edition (ME) into the Mobile and Embedded Community, set to be launched today. And it hosts PhoneME, a project that would enable Java addressbooks and other core components, plus various games and other limited applications.
See this like the possibility to beef up beyond what their current limits the EQO VoIP clients, the Mabber SMS messenger platform or any other calling clients running on Java-enable mobile phones.
