Habbo Hotel’s creator to launch an international social network
Sulake, the creator of the popular Habbo Hotel virtual world, is to launch an international social networking service this summer. The company has acquired IRC-Galleria, the largest online forum for IRC users in Finland. The web site will be rebranded prior to the relaunch, has learned the Guardian.
“We have a very strong background in mobile and are investing heavily. But the activity levels we see are phenomenal, so the secret ingredient is already there,” Timo Soininen, the Sulake chief executive told.
The IRC-Galleria was founded in December 2000 by Tomi Lintelä and acts like a forum in which users to share their photos. The site claims to have over 400,000 registered users and 5.5 million images. For the record, Sulake is also testing a mobile version of its Habbo Hotel, called Mini Friday.
