Stormy future for VoIP in Australia
-

The situation gets cranky for VoIP service providers in Australia. A new report from Telsyte yields that local PSTN carriers currently stands to lose $5.4 USD in service revenue for every $1 USD made by VoIP.
“PSTN carriers have no choice but to join the VoIP bandwagon. Having 80 percent less revenue is still better than having none at all,” the report adds. To survive, service providers must aim to make money outside of pure voice services, and deliver VoIP as part of a larger unified communications suite.
… Isn’t the new Microsoft plan? Bringing some Unified Communications? Does that mean major telephone providers will need to embrace new markets to increase their chance to survive?
