“I’m not talking to you, I’m commanding the softphone”

Remember the early days of voice on the computer. Your microphone that was so useful for… nothing. Microsoft trying to guide you through its voice recognition configuration assistant, promising you that you would be able to command any software solely with the tone of your voice. Time has passed, the feature is still on Windows XP, and pretty much everybody has forgotten it.

Now, with the VoIP emergence, voice recognition is a ‘born-again’. And Speakables bets on this. It rolls out some softwares, running on Mac and Windows platforms, to let you take control of some of your most frequently used applications, such as Skype (indeed) but also iTunes or iPhoto.

For instance, the voice controlled Skype is able to call if you say a contact name include in your buddy list. Another example would be you can hang up a call just by telling the software to do so. And the list just doesn’t stop here.

If you own a regular headset with a teether cable, you just think that’s freaking boring. The usual set of actions you do after starting a VoIP call is… a single Click to minimize the contact list windows. But if you do have a wireless or even cooler, a Bluetooth headset, you won’t probably stay in front of your computer. In those case, commanding your Skype client from 20 feet would a nifty feature.
