SoonR: A new competitor to EQO

With the Skype beta 2.5 yesterday’s release, we’ve got that funny, er, stupid idea that now, tools are getting efficient enough to start online parties.
But let’s face this another (stupid) idea: Why not playing PacMan or the eternal hide-and-seek in some real environment, each participant connected to the others via cellphones?
According to the business zeitgeist, this is becoming easier and easier. But until now, you have to download the Eqo application on your Java-enable mobile handset. Not that easy when you’re not a regular reader of tech handbooks. Very obscure invitation when you don’t even know if your cellphone could handle the software. But if you go through this barrier, you can enjoy the Skype and its new 100-person conference call feature.
An alternative exists: SoonR, a service that is self-described as a way to turn your mobile phone into a remote control for your computer. For instance, you can access to the last presentation stocked on your office computer on the tiny screen of your cellphone. Not very fancy, but still useful.
But now, they announce that Skype could be launched. The service is very similar to EQO’s. When you shoot a Skype conversation, your call will be routed through the SoonR network to your correspondent. If the call ends on a PC, nothing to pay. If not, it’ll be charged a SkypeOut.
SoonR has a drawback. It only works with Windows; Mac and Linux users are left aside. And one more important detail, SoonR (and EQO) are just here to let you stay in touch with your Skype contacts, they both are free but won’t get you rid of phone bills sent to you by your regular mobile operator… But you can still play at hide-and-seek.

[…] WebEx and SoonR match up. The former is a provider of software-as-a-service (SaaS, the kind of OS 2.0 that is buzzing around), the latter enable mobile phone users to reach their computer through their handset, and since recently, strive to rival Eqo and other VoIP on mobile applications. […]
