From time to time, cellphone carriers are so focused on milking the SMS cash cow that they miss some interesting features. Take this new Orange World services. It’s supposed to bring more fun to text messaging. The service provides a limited range of speaker avatars for cellphone users.
Of course, it’s another way to bring more cash. But instead of downloading a new avatar, we suggest that users send their messages with their own avatars, then able to speak up the words on the receiver cellphone. Wait, that’s almost instant messaging your friends. But the solution might entice cellphone users to switch for a real IM service. Especially when we know Orange and Microsoft have teamed up to supply Windows Live Messenger on mobiles.
