Breaking news: Skype free outgoing calls in France

Remember Skype freeing SkypeOut calls in North America? Well, they’re doing it again, in France.
The promotional offer starts today and will last 4 months, until the end of 2007 (just right when the SkypeFree in America stops.) Every outgoing Skype calls becomes free, everything except PC-to-mobile calls.
This is a big bummer. Skype is highly challenged in France by major telcos triple-play offers. Residential VoIP users already make free calls without noticing it. France Telecom, the historical telephone service provider through its ISP and mobile division, Orange, also jumped in the VoIP bandwagon this year.
But it’s good, though. If Skype can succeed in France, one of the toughest broadband market in Europe, there’s slightly a chance that the free SkypeOut might be extended in time and in other countries. And might remain as the ultimate weapon in the VoIP arena.
