Skype updates its SkypeOut plans for Europe

A month earlier, when Skype put an end to its free SkypeOut promotion in North America, and updated it as a $30/year calling plan, including phone calls to cellphones, we thought it would do quite the same offer in Europe.

Skype announced today its new global pricing plans for domestic phone calls. What we read fulfilled the expectations, although Skype in Europe still separates calls made to landline and cellphones.

New SkypeOut plans in Europe have been shaped on the American one. It now include a €2 monthly fee, which enable users to make phone calls to domestic landline for free –but the company will charge €0.039 for the connection. Skype will also provide the voicemail service for free. The new plans will also lower the calling rates to East European countries, and to the South-East Asia region.

What is a bit disappointing is the lack of new offers including a WiFi Skype phone. After all, WiFi hotspots are expected to spread across Europe at a steady pace, and Skype invested into Fon, the WiFi network.
