Skype still downloaded, although banned by the UAE

Sometimes, it’s good that Skype gets this incredible ability to snake through firewalls and VoIP filters. Because it allows people from small countries ― often emerging countries ― to not be left asides from the telecoms evolution.

Just like other small countries, the United Arab Emirates (check Wikipedia) authorities have officially blocked the kind of VoIP clients, Skype. Results? Just a big failure, reports AME Info.

Skype.com is blocked, but people download the installer in the freezones. They get it from general software download sites. They get it via P2P. They get friends and family to email it to them. They get it on their laptop while overseas. Despite the ban, the application works, because once installed, Skype is almost impossible to block.

And they give a list of VoIP clients that are fully functional in this country: MindSpring, Jajah, VoipCheap, Wengo, BestNetCall, Glophone, StanaPhone, GnomeMeeting/Ekiga, Linphone, NetTelephone, STASoft, Adwell, Ageet or Yate.

Could this be some first signs of global democracy?
