Close-source Skype advances on an open source framework

Skype has elected Trolltech’s framework to its preferred platform for Skype phones, reports Linux Devices. Considering the popularity of Trolltech’s Qtopia framework, the decision has to be considered as fairly important to pretty huge.
Why? Because Qtopia is a device-agnostic framework, designed to become a cross-platform development environment enabling developers built executable softwares for multiple platforms from the same open source code. And Qtopia is widely adopted; from the Sony Mylo to the Archos 604 WiFi portable media player, including Panasonic wireless phones and Belkin WiFi phones.
Skype may take its times (a long time) to develop a mobile version of its calling client that would be Symbian-compatible. But on the other direction, building new versions of Skype for Microsoft CE and Linux phones may be a lot faster than today.
