4 ways to record VoIP conversations

As you talk online, you wonder 1) if you can record conversations for instance to podcasts them afterwards, 2) if you can backup them just for fun. Skype is popular, but turns to be a headache when it comes to save oral discussions. Here’s now some solutions to still get the job done, without having to manipulate too many cables or install a dozen of new softwares.
Hot Recorder
The software isn’t simply a Skype recorder, as claimed by the company responsible of it, Hot Recorder could also store Google Talk, AIM, Net2Phone, Y! Messenger, FireFly (VoIP voice client for Asterik) conversations. Useful enough to bundle most of your future conversations. Sounds are filed under the ELP proprietary format but then could be converted into the WAV, MP3, or OGG format, and IDE tagging is also possible. So if this software provides all these, why should we keep reviewing Skype recorders? Because their free version comes with adverts, plenty of ads, that are so big your eyes get mad at the look-and-feel. The paid version costs $15.
Skylook
Skylook is short for Skype on Outlook. Got the message? Skylook only works with this couple of applications. But if you’re fine with these two softwares, Skylook will allow you to record all you Skype calls and even archives them in an predefined Outlook folder. So you end up with a familiar interface and won’t spend time to learn how to handle this recorder.
Kish Kish Sam, and Pamela
Although their names might induce this kind of reflexion, Sam and Pamela are not brother and sister, nor they are cousins softwares. But as they are tied to Skype API, they actually can be cousins. But, back to the review anyway. Sam was designed to be ‘the’ Skype answering machine, picking up the call, playing your greeting message and beeping to beckon callers when to start talking. Since then ― the software reached its version 2.0 ―, Sam can now play video greetings and above all, record Skype tete-a-tete. All this for free.
Pamela provides the same range of features than Sam. The Skype bundle picks up calls for you, cheers people for you and takes messages for you. That means it can record calls. But depending on the plan you go with, your record time will be restricted to 10 minutes, 4 hours or set unlimited.
Note: our favorite recorder is Hot Recorder, as the software supports more voice clients than the other ones.

The fifth, maybe should be the first, vEmotion. It supports all VOIP programs. I extraodinarily like its auto beginning and end recording. It’s free to download at www.voiceemotion.com
Thanks for the tip. Have you tried it yet? For those interested in trying it, the list of VoIP clients supported by the recorder is: Skype, AIM, GTalk, Live Messenger, Y! Messenger, QQ, ICQ, and eventually (we haven’t checked it yet) some SIP-compatible clients.
Yes. I have tried it with Msn, Icq, gtalk, yahoo, QQ, aim, sipphone, teltel, SipHello, SJphone … the list is too long. It works well. I often use it to record PC to Phone calls. The sound quality is perfect.
