Live conversations in the “SamePlace”

Imagine that you’re getting some nerve reading the personal weblog written by your so-fantastic-until-now middle manager. Imagine that you want to tell every other person reading the same web site that you’re gonna kill him the next morning. But of course, you don’t know them and you couldn’t launch your favorite IM (VoIP or not) client to talk to them over the Internet. So basically, you’re f*cked up… at least until you try the SamePlace Firefox extension.
SamePlace allows Firefox users with their extension to start instant messaging chat while reading the same web. Every IM buddies could do this with their softwares, some of them could even do this by video conferencing. Yes, it’s true. But the smart idea here is that the SamePlace extension warns Net users when other people are free and willing to discuss.
Before you start using SamePlace, you would have to create a Jabber ID, as the SamePlace extension takes advantage of the XMPP/Jabber communication protocol. If you’re not, you could create one at the extension installation ― just as if you’re installing Skype for the very first time.
SamePlace shows extensive interoperability. Going for the XMPP protocol allows Google Talk, Gtalkr, Goowy or Jabbin users to find its own users. And we bet that the extension will very soon provide VoIP features. For now, you would have to cheer yourself up with the alpha version. But it still is very promising.

Hello, thanks for mentioning SamePlace and for the (funny!) review. No work on the VoIP side so far (been busy writing http://buzz.sameplace.cc, sort of a meeting point), but that’s a certainly a field worth exploring.
[…] Currently, Medium is testing its agent in close beta, expects to launch its client by the end of the year, says GigaOM. We hope they would bring more features, like integrating MySpace contact list or allowing one to discover others’ friends web position. Among their competition, Itzle users can point a specific place on a page, and SamePlace is doing fine with a Jabber client. […]
