RTX rich media SIP phone

Usually, mobile phones are to fool around whereas landline, cordless or not, phones are to make phone calls. The Denmark-based company RTX doesn’t understand it this way. It introduces its new DualPhone to give landline phone users so new functionalities. The DualPhone combines SIP communication for Internet telephony ― used by the Gizmo Project, Jabbin or OpenWengo for example ― and web contents such as emails, stock market data, weather forecasts, traffic queues or sports results. All these informations are displayed in colors on the 128×128 phone screen.

The base station is connected both to the conventional phone system and to the Internet through the local network. This is a smart feature compared to other VoIP landline phones. According to a last report from ChangeWave Research, 36% of VoIP residential users go for their conventional phone service as primary phone line.

But we’re quite doubtful about the DualPhone efficiency to retain users to switch for a dual-mode mobile phone, but at least, it should give a reason for conventional phone users to upgrade their devices. The DualPhone is also available in its USB version. Shipping for both models should start at the end of the forthcoming CeBit trade fair in Hanover, Germany.
