Public domain sounds for podcasters and ringtone lovers

If you want to customize the ringtone of your cellphone or the ringtone of your VoIP client, the Public Domain Sounds is a good place to start. Like any other media sharing site, it works like a directory where anybody can upload its sounds and noise.

PDSounds says it’s intending to capture “acoustical images, environments, things, field recordings, effects, and collages […] put the recordings in the public domain and offer them for download so everyone can make use of them how they wish.”

Most sound clips are about 16 seconds long but could last up to 2 minutes. They are in good quality and pretty realistic. We like the “Drip coffee maker dripping” sounds, here.
