Philips, soon to produce wearable screens

Ah. Here come closer the time where you could become a display machine. Philips Research will showcase first prototypes of Lumalive clothings at the IFA 2006 Design Exhibition in Germany.
Lumalive textiles make it possible to create fabrics that carry dynamic advertisements, graphics and constantly changing color surfaces. The technology isn’t a new one, but has mature enough to let Philips ambition to put it into production.
“The electronics, batteries and LED arrays are fully integrated and invisible to the observer and wearer. The jackets feature panels of up to 200 by 200 mm², although the active sections can be scaled up to cover much larger areas such as a sofa,” says the release.
Some companies, like MoBeeline or CuteCircuit, have already start to sell ‘intelligent’ LED-composed clothings.
At least, if mass consumers don’t want it, Philips has this advantage over its small competitors: It can produce huge and flexible TV sets…
