PayPal VoIP scam

PayPal got phished, VoIP phished. PayPal phishers clone the technique used in the Santa Barbara Bank & Trust fraud. In short, an email luring to call a California phone number, then an automated voice asking a bank account number, and voilĂ , another illegally grabbed number.

It’s not really a surprise, due to the web-based inherent nature of PayPal, because PayPal scams rank among the most numerous on the Internet. And because WebSense, a phishing hunter, noticed that in the Santa Barbara Bank fraud, the voice message didn’t mention any bank name, “which could be a potential indicator that this number is being used for fraud against other entities.”
