File-sharing now possible with Yahoo! VoIP Messenger

A lot of you, readers, have seen the current ‘Get a Mac’ ads campaign, where the Microsoft ‘incarnation’ is desperately fighting to retain people from switching to an Apple Mac.
Well, Skype and Yahoo Messenger are quite doing the same game. They could both do instant messaging and voice over the Internet. With about the same efficiency but not with the same coolness. Because of the peer-to-peer technology that powers the Skype voice client. And with it, Skype users can share files a lot more efficiently than Yahoo! members or Windows Live.
But Yahoo! is catching on. Indirectly, through a widget developed by Pando, the startup that used to provide a nifty way to send large files in email.
Their recent Yahoo Messenger widget allows people to share files at the peer-to-peer power. In fact, at the BitTorrent power, as Pando borrowed some of its code to the BitTorrent protocol, the technology that made Hollywood jump out of the window.

As Yahoo just rolled out its widgets, this plugin is very young and “this first version has a limited set of Pando functionality,” said the developing Pando team. Go try it. At least, you won’t feel the same as the Microsoft avatar compared to the Mac cool guy.
