PalmSource goes Linux

Should we go Linux on mobile? Nokia thinks it’s premature. Vodafone, NTT DoCoMo, Samsung and friends think the opposite. As other open source projects, it’s the supporting community that makes the difference. And the new pro-Linux guy is nothing but Access, whose portfolio includes Palm OS and NetFront browser, might be important.

Access will release its Application Framework, designed specifically to meet the requirements of mobile phones and devices, under both the Mozilla Public License v1.1 and the General Public License v2. Now, anyone could download the source code here.

Such a move might boost open source software development for smartphones, generate faster and less resource consuming applications, and on top of that, reduce the fragmentation of the mobile software. A very desired move.
