Odeo turns MySpace, now bets on webcam and SMS

Service by service, Odeo is moving away from podcast, its primary activity, to chase other “more MySpace” segment markets.

Hellodeo, which launch on last Friday, is a widget that allows anyone with a webcam to record a “Hello, hi, it’s me” message. Bloggers are invited to include the plugin code in their site template. Videos will be stored on their own website and, best part, get their own permalink ― increasing the viral potential of the service by 10 at least.

Twttr ― twfff what? ― is the second launch. The idea derives from a email list. Each time you feel an urge to text all of your friends, you twttr one message then carbon-copied a dozen times. No download nor software installation required, and the service is free. Here’s the catch: your mobile provider keeps charging you for all the sent SMS. If possible, you should try Mabber, which frees instant messaging on mobile.

Will those two wings make Odeo get high? No idea. Noah Glass, one of the Odeo triplets, wrote on his blog: “It wasn’t called that then. It had no name. Just the beginning of an idea. […] I am not implying that you have all of the answers from the beginning. But, you know that they exist, and you know you will find them.” Sounds like an ode to the Web 2.0.
