British DS gamers will soon see their game field expanded to… the UK and Ireland. Nintendo has announced the openings (beginning today) of some 600 BT Openzone hotspots in retail stores across the country, such as GAME, Gamestation, HMV and Toys R Us.
In those places, DS users would just have to plug their WiFi connector (in picture) before accessing the free wireless network. The features mainly is dedicated to promote forthcoming Nintendo games by offering their free demo version.
Among various WiFi video games, some already feature VoIP phone calls. Metroid Prime Hunters, for instance, allows users to chat before and after battles to agree on match parameters or to relive their battles.
So far, Nintendo and BT have deployed about 7500 wireless access point across the UK. The video maker claimed to top the one million wireless gamers earlier this month, one million of 25 million users throughout the world.
