Netvibes-Meebo mash up

When a Web 2.0 meets another Web 2.0 services, it’s mashup time. Netvibes and Meebo are just demonstrating the potential of this kind of operations.

Netvibes provides an Ajax-powered and customizable home page service. It’s one of the biggest of the place ― until the real coming out of Windows Live ―, and look forwards to adding extra modules, just Flickr.

Meebo shares the same all-from-my-place principle, but for instant messengers. Its 100% IM platform let users connect to the most popular IM and the service has made a good start.

Now, as said Tariq Krim, one of the cofounders, Netvibes users could access to all the regular instant messengers through a Meebo module. In short, access more from the same place. An Alexa module is also integrated but might interest business people and webmasters only.

Netvibes/Meebo should be a very powerful team-up. Netvibes fills the small lack of social interaction it has. And by this move, Meebo belongs to the first group of IM that bundles a social network. Just like Jabber whose functionalities have been integrated into LiveJournal or Skype gets inside social/dating network like Bebo and French MySpace clone WAT.

The only missing point is voice features which could have brought additional sweetness to Netvibes. LiveJournal has seized the importance of these features and is announced to partner Gizmo Project.
