Motorola to WiMax Tokyo

Motorola is turning Tokyo into a giant lab for wireless networking. But no, it’s not another WiFi 802.11x citywide network, it’s the technology right after: WiMax. This will be the first test of this kind in such an important metropolis. Testing will start on next September and last for 5 months.

Moto teammates with Softbank for the occasion. Softbank, which acquired Vodafone Japan, bets on WiMax to top NTT DoCoMo and KDDI. And Moto, whose last quarter results were very good, is testing some 25 prototype WiMax mobile handhelds to prepare the next generation of dual-mode phones.
