Motorola to bring in more Linux phones

Developers of the Silicon Valley would have a new toy before Christmas. Motorola has decided to pour more Linux-powered phones into the North American market (and also in Europe). The decision, unveiled at LinuxWorld conference (see the picture), is to provide cheaper mobile phones to seize a bigger share in a very well served market.

The strategy worths the try; computer assemblers have taken this orientation with quite a big mess in price sensitive markets. But for cellphones, critical variables remain applications. If Motorola could spark some interests among open source communities to sustain some terrific application development, the bet is won.
