Will Linux disrupt mobile market?

“We believe we are just now at the beginning of a revolution,” said Eirik Chambe-Eng. “What he called the ‘five Cs’ ― complexity, control, customization, cost and community ― as motivating factors for manufacturers to switch to Linux.”

The Trolltech’s cofounder has been touting the audience at the Open Source Business Conference in London, according to CNet.

“Manufacturers are scared of Microsoft coming in and pushing margins away from the hardware. There are very thin margins in this business, and Symbian and Windows Mobile are typically expensive,” he said.

Lately, we’ve seen a handful of world-class mobile device manufacturers and mobile network operators teaming each other to develop a Linux open source platform. And Nokia seems to do very good at showcasing the endless capabilities of its Internet tablet N770.
