IM on mobile: Miyowa grabs €3 million

France is already known for its very high level of broadband penetration. So not very surprising to see a boom of mobile telecoms startups in the country of smelling cheeses and red wines.

In this frenzy, Miyowa, a 3-years-old mobile service provider, just raised €3 million from Techfund and Sophia Europlab. To develop more social network mobile services. Right now, mobile phone supporting the Miyowa client, called MoveMessenger, could run MSN Live Messenger and MSN email service.

MoveMessenger is a Java J2ME Instant Messenger client, compatible with existing standards including Jabber and Wireless Village. With MoveMessenger, getting access to instant messaging from a mobile phone is as simple for mobile phone users as it is already on PCs.
Based on patented technology by Miyowa, MoveMessenger a is a thin client (60kb), compatible with more than 300 handsets giving it the largest footprint of any mobile instant messaging service.
