France Ministry of Interior goes VoIP

Broadband telephony is making its way straight through the high sphere. France Ministry of Interior has contracted Solucom to turn its phone network into VoIP. This is the first initiative of this kind throughout the Old Europe. And concerns the 2300 sites and 160,000 units of the Ministry, as Solucom says in a statement.

The switch is mainly to cut costs on communications. But in a longer term, putting everything on IP could ring more online public services. So far, France trails the UK and the Scandinavian countries for web public services. But isn’t it cool to imagine avoiding those never ending waiting lines?
