Microsoft sued over XBox Live

“Think global, sue local” might be the tactic of Paltalk. The video chat company, self-claimed the “largest video chat community on the Internet”, has decided to take its gun against Microsoft ―
in Texas only(see the first comment). The case will be hold by the US district court of the State of Texas.Paltalk accuses Microsoft XBox Live to infringe its patents No. 5,822,523 and No. 6,226,686. Both patents cover “messaging and communications with groups of users, such as groups of players of online games”, says the release.
But why Texas only? Ars Technica got this beautiful answer: “Because Microsoft has subscribers who reside in the Eastern District of Texas, and Microsoft provides infringing online services to its subscribers in this district.” Hopes there are at least two gamers in this area.
According to the first comment (thanks by the way), “the reason the company picked this court, and not any other federal court, is because there’s a judge there who’s extremely friendly to patent trolls.”

They aren’t suing in “Texas only”. They’ve filed suit in a federal court located in East Texas, as patent suits can be filed in any court in whose district a company operates. Any judgement issued from a case in this court won’t be applicable just in its district, but across the entire US.
But, the reason the company picked this court, and not any other federal court, is because there’s a judge there who’s extremely friendly to patent trolls.
